Are NFTs halal?
Case-by-case: an NFT is a certificate of ownership — the ruling follows what it certifies and why you're buying it.
An NFT representing permissible content with genuine utility (art you display, a license, a ticket) can be bought and sold like any digital good. An NFT of impermissible imagery fails on content; a utility-free token bought purely to flip fails the same maysir analysis as meme coins for many scholars.
The 2021-era speculation collapse settled the practical point: most purely speculative NFTs behaved exactly like lottery tickets. What remains defensible is the boring use: real digital property with real use.
The conditions that matter
- Permissible underlying content
- Real utility or genuine collecting intent, not pure flip-speculation

Is NFT royalty income halal?
Creator royalties on permissible works are trade income — fine. Royalties from impermissible content follow the content.
